One of the most common causes of over-counting data has to do with how Google Tag Manager was deployed on the site. Websites vary in how they handle tags and load scripts so it’s important to properly QA the Google Tag Manager set up.
Additionally, websites change as do marketing initiatives which makes double checking the GTM code placement regularly an important part of a proper analytics practice.
The fall out from getting it wrong can be severe. Double counted conversions can go unnoticed for quite some time.
Using Google Tag Manager to Improve Insights
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is one of many Tag Manager Systems (TMS) that allow you to manage a vareity of tracking codes through a single interface. Deploy the TMS across your site, and then use the TMS interface to control how and where each code is managed.
When deployed and managed properly Google Tag Manager will help you accurately collect critical data you can use to gain insights into how your marketing is influencing your audience. When deployed incorrectly it can cause hours of goose chasing.
In Tag Manager, click Accounts and then Create account. A new container is created by default when you create a new account.
Install the container in your website or mobile app. For web and AMP pages: Add the container snippet as instructed by Tag Manager, and remove any existing tags. For mobile apps: Use the Firebase SDK for Android or iOS.

The translation of clean, enriched data into meaningful dashboards, reports, exploration tools that leverage visualization to facilitate meaningful interpretation of data with as few distractions as possible.
Role: Data Analyst
Through the use of dashboards, reports, and exploration tools (which could include ad hoc SQL work), mining for insights (something different than expected or new opportunities).
This can take the form of answering an explicit question from within a business, exploration for the sake of seeking insights, or at the prompt of a monitoring system.
